  1. Run the installer from your Downloads folder.
  2. Crater isn't code-signed yet, so Windows may say it protected your PC. Click More info, then Run anyway.
  3. Click Yes when Windows asks for permission, then follow the wizard.

macOS

macOS 14 Sonoma or later, Apple silicon or Intel

Download the disk image

  1. Open the disk image and drag Crater onto Applications.
  2. Crater isn't signed with an Apple Developer ID yet, so macOS blocks the first launch.
  3. Open System Settings, then Privacy & Security, and click Open Anyway. You only do this once.

Linux

  1. The AppImage is the whole app in one file, with nothing to install.
  2. Right-click it, choose Properties and turn on Executable as Program. Or run chmod +x on it.
  3. Double-click the file to open Crater.

Crater is made for the laptop already in the booth.

Graphics
On Windows, a graphics chip with Direct3D 11. Intel HD 4000 class laptops and newer.
Disk
About 1 GB free. The Bible library adds about 300 MB after the first launch, and imported media is copied in.
Screens
One works. A second screen, projector or TV is recommended for the room.

Updating

Crater checks for a new version once a day and puts a dot on the Settings gear when there is one. Nothing downloads until you click, and your songs, themes and schedules stay as they are.

Checking a download

Every release lists the SHA-256 checksum of each file in SHA256SUMS.txt. The built-in updater checks it for you.
